About Us

“Our mission is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to multi ethnic diverse families of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and adjacent cities. We believe that our Calling, Compassion, and Commission is to Impart the Word, and Impact the World”

Our History

Serving the Cedar Rapids Community

While our nation was on the verge of entering World War I, a handful of Christians in Cedar Rapids, Iowa were seeking a fellowship of Christian believers with whom they could better relate, Out of this need, the Lord supplied the vision and the means whereby Mt. Zion Baptist Church was to be born.

This was a difficult period for the congregation for they were without a church building of their own. In 1914 the congregation obtained property on 624 Eighth Street SE which the first parsonage was built.

Our Staff

As we shift from “edifice” (cathedral - Exodus 25:8) to “ecclesia” (called out - 1 Corinthians 12:27) to “economy” (consecrated civic responsibility - Matthew 5:13-14), Mt Zion Leaders are efficiently leading the transition of Mt. Zion to the next level of excellence in Christ Jesus. Evangelizing beyond the walls of the church, effectively partnering with civic leaders and enabling a healthy economy by way of leadership efficacy.
