Dr. Ray A. L. Coleman, Jr. was born, by the will of God, to Ray Coleman, Sr. and Mrs. Carolyn Williams in Houston, Texas. He is the first of six children. Dr. Coleman attended Paris, Texas Public Schools and graduated from Paris High School in 1987. Immediately following high school, he proudly served in the United States Navy.

Dr. Coleman accepted his preaching call to the ministry on April  1990, and officially became Reverend Ray A. L. Coleman, Jr. His “Born to Preach” spirit led him to pursue higher education. His academic journey has included a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, a Master’s Degree in Theology, a Master’s Degree in Christian Counseling, a Doctorate in Theology, a Doctorate in Christian Counseling, and a Doctorate in Religious Education. He is also a published author of From Broken to Better.

Dr. Coleman is the former Pastor of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, where he served faithfully for more than 20 years. He was the longest-tenured pastor in the church’s history and led the congregation through numerous accomplishments. Under his leadership, the church became debt-free, the facility was completely renovated, and the church expanded its community involvement. He established a marriage ministry that counseled couples across the United States and a wellness ministry that helped thousands address underlying health concerns and navigate the challenges of COVID-19. He also led the rebranding of the church with the identity, “The Church that CARES.”

Upon his arrival at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Dr. Coleman began working diligently to transform the congregation into “The Rebuilding Place.” He expresses love to all, teaches the importance of love, and strives to be a living example of the LOVE of GOD. His influence can be felt through his preaching, his work with ministry leaders, and the way he goes out of his way to serve others. We are truly blessed to have such a leader.

Dr. Coleman enjoys fishing, sports, physical fitness, going to the movies, and fine dining. His influences in the preaching ministry include Rev. S. F. Evans, Rev. William Tim Glynn, Dr. Ralph D. West, Dr. T. R. Williams, the late Rev. O. C. Johnson, Rev. Jerry D. Black, Dr. R. A. Williams, Dr. Frank Ray, and Dr. Jasper Williams.

Dr. Coleman is married to the lovely Mrs. Rhonda Faye Coleman (formerly Daniels), the daughter of Pastor and Sis. Richard Edward Daniels. Together they are blessed with five children: Shaderia, Shakeria, Ray III, Dedric, and Rayshawn. They are also proud grandparents of seven grandchildren: Logan, Ray IV, Jayne, Marley, Kingston, Raymon Eli, and June.
